Can I transfer pensions from other pension providers into my Lambeth pension?
You may be able to transfer pension rights into the LGPS from a previous provider such as a previous employer’s pension scheme or a personal pension plan. Please note: pension credits awarded following a divorce cannot be transferred into the LGPS.
Previous LGPS Benefits
If you have had LGPS membership before, your records will normally be automatically combined with your new membership. You can choose to keep the benefits separate, but you must elect to do so within 12 months of joining. We will write to you with details of your options.
Transfers from a Public Service Pension Scheme (PSPS)
(e.g. Civil Service, NHS, Teachers, Armed Forces)
If you were previously a member of another PSPS, your transfer may qualify for Club transfer arrangements, which offer preferential terms. To be considered under these rules, you must elect to proceed within 12 months of joining. Please complete the Declaration of Previous Pension Rights form, available in the Resources section of our website https://www.lgpslambeth.org. Returning this form will allow us to begin the transfer process.
Transfers from All Other Pension Providers
If you want to investigate transferring a pension from any other type of provider:
Contact your previous provider to request a transfer value, and any discharge forms they require.
Pass this information on to us as soon as you receive it.
Transfers must be initiated within 12 months of your start date.
Your former scheme will provide a cash equivalent transfer value (CETV). This amount would be used to buy additional pension in the LGPS. Requesting a transfer quote is not binding. The transfer will only go ahead once we have provided you with an estimate of the LGPS pension your transfer value would buy, and you confirm that you wish to proceed.
